Amadu also said they are very much aware of the $3.8 million advanced to them by the federal government to offset the appearance fee for the players at Brazil and are obliged to refund it once they get the money.

Obasanjo was reacting to the refusal by an insurance company to pay claims on the burnt property of one of his adopted daughters Mrs Morenike Oladunni-Omorodion.
The former president who refused to disclose the identity of the insurer also said that the company has been doing everything possible to avoid paying the claims.
Omorodion’s property got burnt in the month of July and up to the time of going to the press, nothing has been done to assuage the loss and inconvenience.
Speaking to Vanguard, Omorodion said that she has lost confidence in insurance in Nigeria adding that since the incident occurred, the insurance firm has been insensitive to her plight.
She said,
Weekend Vanguard gathered that the arrest was carried out with the involvement of eagle-eyed operatives of the Department of State Service, DSS, and the Police in Kano, Kano State.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, for Kano State also confirmed the arrest yesterday.
The arrest was said to have been effected at a Polling Unit, PU, in the Kabo area of Kano.
The two arrested individuals have, however, been granted bail.
In fact, Weekend Vanguard gathered from a very competent source that when the Director General of the DSS, Ekpeyong Ita, got wind of the development, he was said to have alerted Jega.
The INEC. Chairman, in his response, confirmed the arrest.
He was also said to have assured that the replacement for the two staff involved was already on. He confirmed that the arrested persons were not of the National Youth Service Corp. Shockingly, the INEC Chairman disclosed that the individuals were students who were being used to complement the manpower shortage of corp members.
He insisted that the offenders would be prosecuted. Observers are however, of the view that INEC needn’t launch into its now moribund voyage of adding 30000 Polling Units which were controversially allocated, giving the North massive advantage over the South, when it was aware that it had a manpower challenge.
And whereas INEC suspended the allocation of the controversial additional PUs last Tuesday, inside sources disclosed to Weekend Vanguard that some Commissioners in the electoral body were still bent on carrying out an agenda that would accord the North massive voting advantage – read details of this new plot in Sunday Vanguard tomorrow
Addressing a press conference, in Abuja, Mr. Atamuno said that Mr. wike’s withdrawal would be the only thing that would save PDP and ensure victory in next year’s general election, in the state.
He insisted that the former minister’s participation would undermine the governorship primaries, a situation that would lead to protest votes against the PDP at the governorship election.
The states were Adamawa, Borno, Edo, Imo, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Plateau and Rivers.
This exercise had earlier been conducted in twenty one states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Phases I and II.
The exercise involved voters cross-checking their names in the displayed Voters’ Register and collecting permanent voters cards in exchange for the old ones.
When the exercise failed in Lagos, residents took to the streets to protest, storming the Lagos office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to vent their spleen. The Lagos exercise was scheduled to hold in Agege, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Ibeju-Lekki, Ifako- Ijaiye, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Kosofe, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, Mushin and Ojo while it was postponed in Alimosho, Amuwo Odofin, Apapa, Badagry, Epe, Oshodi- Isolo, Somolu, Surulere and Eti-Osa from Nov. 28 to Nov. 30.
Tales of woe
Despite declaring a public holiday in Lagos to enable workers obtain the permanent voter’s cards in the areas INEC approved, tales of woe were everywhere as voters lamented their predicament.
According to eyewitnesses, the kids were trampled on in a stampede caused by armed security men including men of the Joint Task Force code named Operation Pulo Shield.
The stampede, it was learnt, occurred at about 6.30pm Thursday at the jam-packed stadium in the aftermath of shooting of tear gas to wage the surging crowd of women and youths waiting to collect the commodities slated for distribution.
The programme was organized by the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on MDGs in collaboration with the Bayelsa State Government through the MDGs conditional grant scheme and office of the First Lady.
Reflective of the pressure which also came from some close associates of Asiwaju Tinubu, the political group has switched support towards the presidential aspiration of Speaker Aminu Tambuwal who with his entry this week, immediately turned into a major contender for the ticket.
He has Buhari and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as the main challengers for the party’s presidential ticket with Governor Rabiu Kwankwanso of Kano State and newspaper publisher, Sam Nda-Isaiah also contending.
Several other factors were taken into consideration by the Tinubu camp in switching support, close associates of the political leader disclosed to Saturday Vanguard. Among the other factors was the alleged overbearing influence of some close associates of Gen. Buhari, who they claimed were likely to fence out other political stakeholders in a possible Buhari presidency.
Three former heads of state, two from the north and one from the south and a very influential retired army chief from the northeast who has also held political appointments in the present dispensation were among those cited by sources as having prevailed on the Tinubu camp to drop support for Buhari.
The decision of the Tinubu camp to drop support for Buhari, it was learnt, also followed reservations from some sections of the north notably, some Islamic leaders.
However the petite singer couldn’t hide her excitement over the whole thing as she took to her Instagram page to express her feelings:
His University days were filled with tales that would make a block-buster movie if scripted. But that did not change his mind-set as he was determined to get to his God-given destination.
In this edition, we celebrate an icon who has affected so many young lives and whose shows have launched so many entertainers into spotlight, but whose greatest wish is for his parents to be alive to see what he has become.

A victim of the Boko Haram insurgency spoke of how her family was virtually wiped out in an interview with Vanguard last weekend. She spoke of how wives were forced to watch as their husbands and soul mates were tied to trees and killed.
I want to put in on record that despite all the political troubles we had during his time in office that Maigari remains the most successful NFF leader that we have had. His record are there to see that under such an hostile environment he was still able to win the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013, as well as the Golden Eaglets triumph at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2013 as well as numerous other international and continental tournaments.
Maigari was a product of the crisis that took out Sani Lulu, who was also a product of crisis that swallowed Ibrahim Galadima, whose fall was orchestrated by some persons in the Sports Ministry.
s change in the leadership of the NFF as being allegedly masterminded by the Sports Ministry doing our football any good?
In the past, government’s interference was deemed not good for our nation’s football development, by those against government. It is curious to however note people are always quick to point at government’s interference when things don’t go their way, while those who benefit from the system say that it is not government’s interference. So the answer is always going to tilt to the divide to which you belong. The government is a stakeholder in football, so they have a right to jump into the fray.
At the last Elective Congress of the NFF in Warri on September 30, a credible Executive Committee was elected by the delegates and government has endorsed the board as being credible enough to take our football to the next level. This board led by Amaju Pinnick has come to stay. Age and wisdom are on the side of this board. In Pinnick, we have a king, who is young and has a longer lifespan to do well . Nobody can rubbish the tremendous works he has done in Delta State and what he will do in his new capacity in NFF.
Pinnick understudied great minds of Nigerian sports, like the late Patrick Okpomo and Solomon Ogba. He has the wealth of experience to transform our football and I see our football rising again to international prominence under this dispensation.
What is your disposition towards the Appeals Committee sitting on the NFF Elections?
It will be suicidal if anyone, knowingly or unknowingly will try to run back the hand of the clock. In any elections, people will always be angry. They will always cry wolf, blue murder but the thing is that there must be winners and losers in any election process.
It is instructive to note that the Appeals Committee is not bigger than the Executive Committee and that the only organ that can nullify the election in the Congress.
So let reason prevail and let us allow sleeping dogs to live in peace.
Today in Point Noire, Nigeria face the prospects of kissing bye to next year’s Nations Cup. The blame for this ugly scenario is being heaped on Coach Stephen Keshi, who somehow is still in charge of the team, despite massive outcry for his dismissal. Will Keshi not further jeopardize how AFCON chances?
All hell would not break out if we don’t qualify. Keshi is a human being, who has been successful during his time as Eagles coach. People should not wish the team bad because of Keshi. When you go into a match, you either lose, draw or win. Someone is supposed to win today’s match in Congo and my wish is for the Super Eagles to win.
How about the poor results that we have suffered in the last matches, which have made our chances bleak?
Keshi is in charge and part of his duties is to invite players who he feels can do well for Nigeria.
But that has been the issue all through this campaign
It is fair to say he should invite players who are doing well for now. But he will be judged by the results.
And the results have not been exactly favourable for us as we have wobbled and fumbled this far?
I don’t know what you are talking about because the process is not yet over.
As a grassroots coach, are you comfortable with Samson Siasia’s choice to coach the Olympic Eagles team?
He has always been in charge of our youth teams and it is only appropriate that he is in charge. The challenge for him is to produce stars who will form the bulk of the Super Eagles team to the 2018 World Cup in Russis. And he should also win the gold at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
In a briefing yesterday in Warri by Itsekiri Leaders of Thought, the ethnic group in Delta said they were ready to approach the United Nations to seek secession and opt for protection under the United Kingdom or United States in line with treaties signed with these foreign powers long before Nigeria’s independence which they claim have not been abrogated.
The decision read by Secretary to the ILT, Edward Ekpoko noted,
According to him, there has been so much decline in writing and reading among the younger generation and urged them not to allow any primordial considerations to hinder them from developing their innate potentials.
He observed that certain traditional, religious and western teachings enslaved Africans from exploiting their environment and potentials, adding that the problems in Nigeria today such as Boko Haram, which could be attributed to poor mental development occasioned by wrong teaching.
Speaking on the theme;
You’ve been writing for many years now as captured in your new book, do you think some of your write-ups had influenced any government policies at any point in time?
I was speaking with some journalists recently, and the question was, you know so many leaders and politicians, why are you not in politics? and I answered

This followed the continued decline in the nation’s external reserve, as the foreign exchange market defied all efforts of the apex bank to curtail foreign exchange demand and restore confidence in its ability to defend the Naira.
At the Bi-weekly Retail Dutch Auction System (RDAS) session conducted yesterday by the CBN, the official exchange rate rose to N156.39 to the dollar from N155.85 at the previous session conducted on Monday. This translated to 54 kobo depreciation of the Naira against the dollar, and the largest in three years.
Until last month the CBN had fiercely defended the Naira, maintaining the official exchange rate at the N155.75 since April 2013. But following increasing decline in the nation’s external reserves, rising demand for foreign exchange occasioned by foreign investors divesting from the country in response to decline in price of crude oil, the apex bank started depreciating the Naira at the official exchange market.
On October 15th, it depreciated the Naira by one kobo, and by two kobo on the 3rd and 5th of November. On Monday, November 10th, the CBN allowed the Naira to depreciate by five kobo and then yesterday by 54 kobo. The last time the CBN allowed the naira to depreciate more than 50 kobo at the official market was on 28th of November 2011.
But at the interbank foreign exchange market yesterday, the CBN intervened to halt the depreciation of the Naira, with the interbank exchange rate rising to N168.6 to the dollar on Tuesday from N165.8 last Friday. To halt this trend, the CBN conducted special dollar sales to banks, which caused the interbank exchange rate to fall to N167.6 to the dollar yesterday translating to N1 appreciation for the Naira.
Meanwhile, experts have predicted further depreciation for the Naira, saying a sharp devaluation is inevitable.
The affected victims, who are now retired from the services of Edo State government, are Mr. Eddy Amakhu, cameraman; Gabriel Asika, photographer; David Acha, photographer; Henry Odeh, sound man; and Samson Enobemhe, driver.
Counsel to the survivors, Ebosele Okhifoh, in an open letter to the governor, recalled that on April 28, 2012, they were among the press crew of the governor that were involved in a ghastly accident in Owan East Local Government Area, during his campaign, in which George Okosun and Olatunji Jacobs, both of ITV and Fidelis Okhai of AIT died.
They explained to the governor that the accident had taken a heavy toll on their lives, as Eddy Amakhu now has a broken waist and fractured legs and cannot walk.
He said Gabriel Asika has knee and ribs problems, while David Acha has issues with his brain due to head injuries.
Similarly, the counsel said Henry Odeh remains maimed and cannot walk, while Samson Enobemhe was maimed and presently languishing on his sick bed at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, Benin.
The African champions face their Congolese counterparts, the Red Devils, at the Stade Municipal in Pointe-Noire in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match this Saturday which Nigeria must win by a two-goal margin to put life back into their hopes of defending their title.
Speaking with Journalists yesterday at PDP Secretariat after submitting his forms, Akpabio who doubles as Chairman of PDP governors’ forum, said the ambition of some state governors to seek election to the senate was not a threat to the re-election bid of serving senators.
Akpabio who assured that the grievances of the PDP senators over last Saturday ward congress would soon be resolved, said only nine governors wanted to go to the senate and should not affect the senate which has 109 members, saying
He said,
Exception to the influence of the governors was the development in Cross River and Enugu States, where the governors were said to be under pressure. Governor Liyel Imoke was at the national secretariat of the PDP with key political associates yesterday to lodge a complaint over the alleged manipulation of the delegates list which was allegedly doctored after the congress in Abuja.
It was learnt that the outcome of the delegate election in Cross River State was doctored in a way that put the governor at a disadvantage, a development that forced Imoke to meet with key party officials at the national secretariat.
Governor Sullivan Chime on his part had himself been embedded in the federal capital after those aligned with him stayed away from the ward congresses conducted by the David Aja-led state executive of the party in the state. Mr. Chime who met with key stakeholders on Tuesday night, it was learnt, was mounting pressure for the cancellation of the ward congresses but his efforts were as at press time not yielding fruits given the assertion by the party that he should channel his complaints through the appeals committee.
Protests against the congress were also said to be strong from party stakeholders in Rivers and Akwa Ibom States.
A source privy to the development said yesterday
It was not possible to tell whether the footage was staged for propaganda purposes, especially scenes of residents cheering Islamist fighters. The message appeared to be aimed at reinforcing Shekau’s claim that he has created a caliphate within Nigeria.
In the 44-minute video, Boko Haram voices support for other so-called caliphates, including the one proclaimed in Iraq and Syria by the Islamic State (IS) group.
Shekau, who is pictured in close-up shots with rare clarity, again dismisses government claims about ceasefire talks and threatens to kill the man who has presented himself as Boko Haram’s negotiator.
The video, which was delivered through the same channels as past messages, shows armed men lined along a well-paved road, with three pick-up trucks equipped with heavy weapons also visible.
Black, crested flags associated with the Islamist group are also shown.
Later, an armoured vehicle is driven down the road lined with both fighters and individuals who appear to be residents of the town.
Boko Haram has released a series of videos showing similar military hardware, equipment it says was stolen from the Nigerian military. Such claims have been impossible to verify.
No women or girls are seen on the street or anywhere else in the footage.
Most of the message is taken up by a sermon from Shekau, delivered indoors but apparently played on a speaker to locals assembled outside.
"We have indeed established an Islamic caliphate,” he said, restating a call he first made in August.
The images of the sermon include unusually clear close-ups of Shekau, who in past videos has often been shown at a distance, sometimes in grainy footage.
– ‘Support for Islamic brethren’ –
Shekau has previously expressed solidarity with other jihadi groups and leaders, including the IS militants.
In the latest video, he seemed to associate territory under his control with a wider, global caliphate, but did not submit to the authority of any other jihadi leader.
To everyone living in Islamic Caliphate, we convey our greetings,” he said, specifically mentioning “brethren” in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Shishan (an Islamist term for Chechnya), Yemen, Somalia and “the Caliphate in Iraq and Syria.”
A graphic shown later includes a picture the IS group’s leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as well as a portion of the message his group issued on July 1 proclaiming a caliphate in Iraq and Syria.
ugly incident.
I wish this man is alive so that he can be torture to death

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, said it was clear that Tinubu and other leaders in the APC who made the statement were merely seeking to enthrone anarchy in the country.
The statement read in parts:
